Hello, I would like to make movies as I used to with chimera using scenes so that smooth transitions to show different things can then be tweaked to modify figures if needed. Is it possible with chimeraX? I didn’t see anything about it? I remember there was a thread about saving each scene separately which is what I do as cxs, but I have not seen anything about putting the scenes together to make a movie. Can anybody help, or could this be implemented in chimeraX if it is not available? Also another feature that I miss about chimera is the ability to select a colour palette from colorbrew. I still do that manually, but in Chimera that was a choice in the list and it makes figure making so much easier. Thank you for all the nice work on the tool anyway. Hello Chiara, There is no graphical interface for this in ChimeraX, but the "fly" command seems to do what you want: "Fly uses cubic interpolation to smoothly traverse a series of views previously named and saved with view name." (I haven't used it yet). https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/fly.html I hope this helps, Guillaume ________________________________ From: Rapisarda, Chiara /FR via ChimeraX-users <chimerax-users@cgl.ucsf.edu> Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2026 11:43:29 AM To: chimerax-users@cgl.ucsf.edu Subject: [chimerax-users] Scenes as in chimera Hello, I would like to make movies as I used to with chimera using scenes so that smooth transitions to show different things can then be tweaked to modify figures if needed. Hello Chiara, The "view" command also allows gradually moving over a specified number of frames from the current view to another previously saved view, and the "2dlabels" command allows fading labels in and out gradually, etc.. You can also save "scenes" in ChimeraX now (scene = view + colors, styles, 2dlabels, etc.). See "making movies": <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/movies.html> <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/scenes.html> However, in ChimeraX, scenes and animations transitioning between scenes are still under development. Not all aspects of the graphics display are saved in scenes, and smooth transitions have not been implemented even for some of the things that are currently saved in scenes. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C.
