Hello, The error message says the directory (folder) for saving this file does not exist. So, are you sure that C:\Users\Rkrishnan/Desktop exists? Make sure that in the "movie encode" command you give the pathname of the output file that includes a folder that (1) already exists on your computer and (2) where you have permission to write files. I hope this helps, Elaine ----- Elaine C. Meng, Ph.D. UCSF Chimera(X) team Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of California, San Francisco

My guess would be that it doesn't like the mix of backslashes and forward slashes in the path. I would use all forward slashes ("/"). Tom

Tom, It might be worth looking into the slashes a bit more. These look like the commands that are run when you press the record button on the coordinate set slider tool: [image: image.png] Mine also has mixed slashes, but I don't get an error. If mixed slashes can be problematic, I'd hope the 'record' button wouldn't mix them. Could this error happen if the output mp4 already exists and is open in a video player? Depending on the player, it might block overwriting the file. Best, Tony On Fri, Aug 11, 2023 at 2:10 PM Tom Goddard via ChimeraX-users < chimerax-users@cgl.ucsf.edu> wrote:

Are you using OneDrive by any chance? One annoying "feature" of OneDrive is that it moves your Desktop, Documents etc. folders into the OneDrive directory and removes them from your home directory. The error message is clear, it says the Desktop directory does not exist. As Tony mentions the mix of back and forward slashes works. So it probably is Microsoft OneDrive moving the Desktop folder that is the problem. When I have seen OneDrive cause this type of error before it was different because OneDrive made ~/Desktop point to the shared user directory which is not writable and that produces a permission denied error. A new feature in the ChimeraX daily build for the past few weeks is that you can specify where the Snapshot and Spin Movie toolbar icons should place their files if you do not want them on the Desktop. For example snapshot directory /Users/goddard/cximages Documented here https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/commands/snapshot.html Tom
