Dear ChimeraX users! I wonder if there is some system log file containing the full history of previously executed commands and scripts in Chimera-X on the linux machine ? This could be useful if I did not save something and would like to resolve the full story. All the best, Enrico

Not "full" but there is your command history, see: <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/tools/cli.html#history> Elaine ----- Elaine C. Thank you very much, Elaine ! Actually I've been able to access this history log directly in chimera-X that contained only recent commands. Do we have some log directly on the Linux machine ? If yes, what is the path ? Many thanks in advance ! Kind regards Enrico Il giorno lun 30 set 2024 alle ore 17:56 Elaine Meng <meng@cgl.ucsf.edu> ha scritto:

Did you choose "Command History" from the dropdown in the command line to show a separate window? Not just the few commands that it shows directly in the dropdown. If you actually choose Command History it shows a longer list, 500 by default (and you can change to a larger number in the Preferences). There is a file, but is exactly the same information you can already see in the full Command History window. The Preferences help page says where the preferences and history files are: <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/preferences.html#top> <https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/preferences.html#other> "ChimeraX preferences are stored as multiple files in a standard platform-dependent location: • ~/Library/Application Support/ChimeraX/ on Mac • ~/.local/share/ChimeraX/ on Linux • C:\Users\<user-name>\AppData\Local\UCSF\ChimeraX\ on Windows"

Thank you very much !! so on my linux machine I found it in ~/.local/share/ChimeraX/commands if I manually remove the whole history of executed commands (via cleaning the file) will this perturb the ChimeraX ? Update: I've just double checked it and it seems that it works OK after the cleaning of the cash. Is there any option to turn off saving the last commands in the log ? Enrico Il giorno mer 2 ott 2024 alle ore 12:22 Enrico Martinez < jmsstarlight@gmail.com> ha scritto:

As I mentioned before, there is a preference for how many commands to save (see links sent previously). You could change it from 500 to 1 or maybe zero (haven't tried it), then Save the preference. Elaine
